Contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
June 2007

McLean Contracting Company has signed a contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District to build a 1000 foot closure dike with a 100 foot long sheetpile bulkhead/pier for the Poplar Island Habitat Restoration Project in Talbot County, Maryland.  Continuous diminishing erosion of the island on the Chesapeake Bay was the major factor in turning this once 1000 acre farming community and former weekend presidential retreat into an area consisting of less than 10 acres.  Many Federal and State agencies have teamed together to restore Poplar Island.  It is a model for habitat restoration and the beneficial use of dredged material.  McLean’s work on this project is expected to begin the middle of June 2007 and continue until the end of the year.
